4 Months Old

You weigh 15 pounds and are 25 3/4 inchs long. We went to the doctor for your 4 month check up. You had to get immunizations...again. You didn't really cry too bad. Nana went with us and she had to leave the room...she didn't want to hear you cry! Butit wasn't even a cry that lasted a minute! I was so proud of you. You are still in a size 2 diaper...size 3 is PRETTY big on you. You are wearing size 3-6 months now. Some of your newbrn onesies fit you about a oth and a half ago, well they were snug but I still put you in them. They definately don't fit you now. We have gotten you several winter outfits, but I would like for you to have a bigger variety...I know you don't know the difference...but variety never hurt anybody!

You are now eatinga bout 7 oz every 4 hours. You were put on Soy formula at your 4 month visit and we have backed off the rice cereal in your bottle. You get about 6 TBS in an 8 oz bottle now instead of 8 TBS. Once we started the new formula and new amount of cereal you fluctuated with the amount you ate, but now you are on schedule. You now know what your bottle is and you get so excited when I am about to feed you...it is the funniest thing...I can't help but laugh every time. You stopped fighting it when you eat, but just last night and once already today you have started it again. I don't know what it is. The only thing I can think is you are too sleepy and you get frustrated when it comes time to eat. You are still a pretty slow eater. It usually takes you about 20 minutes to eat. The doctor also told me to start feeding you rice cereal with a spoon (2-3 TBS once or twice a day). You absolutely hated it the first time you ate it. I have been very consistent, but I really need to start trying harder if you are ever gonna eat from a spoon.

You are talking ALL the time now. Sometimes you sound like you are whining but you are just talking. You go on and on and on. You are makin all your vowel sounds (obviously you can't make the sounds every way a vowel can sound but you are definately using all the sounds in some form). About a week ago you started trying to use the "r" sound. You have only done it a few times. You are learning more and more everyday! You laugh longer now. It's still a "haahuuhh" but a longer "haahuuhh". You are a little easier to make laugh. You are able to get much higher pitch than you ever have been. Sometimes it's cute and sometimes it NOT! You grasp onto your hands and people clothes now. You reach for things when we put them in front of you! It's so sweet to watch you learn about things!

BEDTIME: Well lets jut say about a month ago (few weeks before you turned 4 months old) we started putting you to bed without a swaddle because you were trying to roll over. It took a good 2 1/2 weeks to get you used to it. You cried and cried and cried and cried when you would wake up. It was VERY difficult to get you to lay down without being startled and wake up. Even if we did get you to sleep you would wake up and startle yourself every 2-4 hours...that's when you would cry. Finally we started letting you cry for 10 minutes at a time. Then we moved it up to about 15-20 minutes. Quicker than we thought...you started getting used to it and stopped crying so much. Before we knew it you were only waking up a few times and just whining and falling back to sleep on your own. There is another factor for your sleeping through the night...but we will get to that later. Now you are sleeping through the night. We DO NOT get up with you to put your paci in your mouth anymore. IF you wake up, it's only for a few minutes and you go back to sleep. I love it...I never thought we would get here. I know the night is coming where I will have to get up and rock you back to sleep (for whatever reason it might be) but I am ready...you are doing WONDERFUL with sleeping right now baby boy!

You're bedtime is between 8:30 and 9:30. You still won't fall asleep without your paci and I have to rock you to sleep. You fight sleep so bad...you are aweful at that! It's ok though because you eventually calm down. You wake up between 7:30 and 8:30. You are the happiest when you first wake up! I LOVE morning times. I get most things done during the morning, but sometims I like to just lay in the living room and watch t.v. with you. You still aren't a good napper. You are getting a little better, but still no where near a schedule. It all depends on when you wake up. You get sleepy somewhere between 9-10:30, 1-3, and 5-7 (which is WAY too late for a nap). Every once in a while you will nap for an hour or so but usually its only 30 minutes!

You love holding on to things! You still like watching t.v. but it still doesn't hold your attention. Nothing holds your attention very long. You are just learning about your surroundings so you are very easily distracted. Like I said before, you like to hold onto something. You can't hold on to it for very long because you don't have full control yet and you get so frustrated when you see something and you can't get it. You also get frustrated when you can't get stuff in your mouth just the way you want it. You suck on your fingers a lot more now. Not a thumb, but your pointe finger and middle finger are the ones you like. You are still spitting all the time. You just won't swallow it. I have checked for teeth but I still don't see or feel any.

You are still on Zantac...3 times a day. You are also on Mylicon 4 times a day. We stopped the Mylanta and started back on Mylicon. It seems to work better with making you less gassy. You don't poot hardly at all anymore. You also seem happier...I dont think the Mylanta worked at all...it actually may have bothered you a little bit.

You will probably never grow out of liking your bath! You enjoy it so much. You are getting way to long for your baby bath. I could hold you while you sit up and that might help, but if you lay on your little mesh mat, your legs hang out. We are going to try you sitting up while we hold you (because you can't sit up on your own yet) or put you in the big bathtub. Either way I am sure you won't mind!

Finally, TUMMY TIME: We don't voluntarily put you on your tummy anymore because guess what...you started rolling over on your own. On October 4, 2010 you rolled ovr from your tummy to your back. On October 14, 2010 we found you in your bed on your stomach. It was a few days later that you actually let us see you roll over onto your stomach. You were still in the stages of crying a little bit when you would wake up and I think you learned to roll over then to help soothe you back to sleep. Anyway, so you can't roll back and forth on both sides yet. You prefer rolling over your right arm/shoulder. So now we can't stop you. If we don't watch you careful you could definately roll into stuff. Speaking of, we have to get rid of the coffee table...you already hit it, but it didn't hurt you, it just scared you. It didn't even leave a mark. There is no stopping you now. However, sometimes you won't or can't quite get back on your back once you roll to your stomach and you get so aggravated! I love watching you though. You just hold your head and chest up so high when you roll to your tummy. You will look around to try and find me and when you see me you smile SO big and just curl up into a ball because you get so excited!

We can't believe how big you are! We are so excited to see you grow bigger and learn about your surroundings!
