So back to the topic...I finally narrowed down the style/theme I wanted to go with for Claire's nursery. I initially wanted an antique style/old time teddy bear theme for Owen's nursery but steered away from that once I actually started decorating...I was pleased with how his nursery turned out, but I am hoping I stick with the theme I have chosen for Claire's nursery...given I have the funds to execute it! Her theme will be a modern victorian style nursery. Here are a few ideas I have had. Sometimes I have good ideas but the execution doesn't turn out quite like I envisioned, so I am hoping it all works out for this room. We live in a rental and once this nursery is done, Owen and Claire's rooms will be the best rooms in the house BY FAR! I don't mind though, since it is a rental, I don't see any point in going to crazy lengths to make all rooms in our house extravagant...plus it's a really really old house!
So here are some ideas:
This accent wall is similar to what I want the accent wall to look like...the adjacent walls will be pink and the accent wall will be white with a pink stencil similar to this. The pink I am using for the wall color is a little more powder pink though. I chose a lighter pink so that I could use different other color pinks in the room and it match. Everything else in this room is cute but not the style I am looking for.
This framed mirror over the dresser is just like a mirror I have in my bedroom. I am going to use it in Claires room but take out the mirror and spray paint the frame white. I will be putting 6 5x7 canvas prints inside the frame. It will hang over the dresser which will also act as the changing table. It will have the changing pad on it and 2 table lamps on each end.
So a friend of ours is giving us a white crib. They bought 2 and ended up not using one of them for very long and asked us not too long ago if we wanted it. Of course we said yes, basically because cribs are expensive and it was the color crib we were wanting. Even though they are giving it to us, I still don't want to mess it up but I want to make a FEW changes to it. I was thinking about buying some decorative trim at Lowes and doing something like what you see on the footboard of this bed onto the headboard of the crib. I can't remember how much space there is but I think there is a little bit of room to do something. I also was thinking about distressing it a little bit...not a lot...just a little bit mainly in the corners/on the edges of the bed.We also want to put a chandelier in the room. The chandelier in this picture is definitely something I would LOVE to put in her room...maybe something on a smaller scale though.
So I decided to make her bedding. I don't think I will end up spending any more than what I spent on Owen's and I won't be saving any money really but this way I can have what I really want without settling for something and paying an arm and a leg. Like this lace skirt...if I bought it in stores it would be around $300 alone...definitely didn't pay that for the fabric and still won't have paid that once I pay for the other materials used to make the entire skirt. So I am making a lace skirt similar to this...I thought it was beautiful!
The curtain/valance in this photo was not something I initially wanted. I was initially thinking of something long and flowey...but I kept coming back to this picture and ended up thinking this has got to be it...I really love it and it's different...every other curtain in my house is long or sheer or flowey...this was perfect. I love the bunched up/layered look. The excess ruffle and layered look is definitely a style from the Victorian Era. So I am getting the victorian feel without actually having to have TONS of excess and ruffle. The material I am using is a light pink cotton and I am attaching a lace overlay that hangs off just at the end...so instead of the beads you will see the lace drape.
The large bow in this picture that is used to tie off the bumper pad on the edge of the crib is something I want to do with the bedding. I want a large taffeta ribbon on each end of the bed...basically just like you see...again...another big theme during the victorian era was LARGE bows. I also want small pink bows to tie off the bumper pad on the other sections you have to tie a bumper pad off on.
I really like this mobile...hand made on etsy...I could probably make something like it, so that's probably what I will do...
I LOVE this dresser...I think something like that will be so pretty white with HUGE pink crystal knobs!
Hoping to find a mirror similar to this to put in her room somewhere...it would be pink or white.
I thought these plaques would be cute as some wall decor...they are small...something like 6 inches tall...this pendant look was very popular in wall art and jewelry during the victorian era...they would...again...be pink or white.
Ok, so these pictures gave me an idea...they are prints...I would want some white frames distressed like this...white paper instead of cream/beige parchment paper...and crowns instead of chairs...I will probably do some sort of mono print for this...
I liked this to hang on her door knob...
I wanted to go ahead and get her a toy chest...I can use it as storage at first...I liked this one because it acts as a bench too...So that's pretty much my main thought on the nursery as a whole as of right now...hoping it all comes together...if it wasn't clear...my color scheme is pink and white only...
